Custom Controller Kit
This project was commissioned by a Japanese company that specializes in high-performance gaming controllers and peripherals. The project objective was to transform the standard Sony PS5 controller into a professional-grade peripheral, meticulously designed to meet the demands of competitive gamers. This intricate upgrade involved a deep dive into the controller’s existing architecture and the integration of advanced features, all while preserving the original form factor for user familiarity.
The project began with a complete teardown and 3D scanning of the Sony PS5 controller, establishing a precise foundational geometry for all new component development. Its ergonomic shape was refined through direct consultation with professional gamers, ensuring optimal feel and reduced fatigue during extended play. Crucially, all new additions were designed to stay within the original controller’s geometric envelope, maintaining player satisfaction with the familiar feel.
The product was successfully launched at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2024, one of the world’s premier gaming exhibitions and is now on sale globally.
